REDengine 4 is a proprietary game engine developed by Polish game studio CD Projekt Red, headquartered in Warsaw, Poland. First introduced in 2020 as the advanced fourth iteration of the REDengine suite, the software was created to power large-scale, non-linear open-world role-playing games with dynamic lighting and vertical urban architecture. The engine made its primary debut powering Cyberpunk 2077 (2020, directed by Adam Badowski) and its major expansion Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (2023). Earlier iterations of the REDengine technology previously powered CD Projekt Red's flagship titles, including The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (2011) and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (2015).
